AJMER: Delegations from 85 schools from 22 countries will arrive here on Saturday to participate in the Round Square International Conference hosted by Mayo College and Mayo Girls' college Ajmer. This is the first such mega event organized in Rajasthan. In the week-long conference, students of various countries will share cultural and traditional views. The Duke of York Prince Andrew will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony.
Speaking on the programme, the convener and bursar of Mayo College, Dinesh Bhatnager, said Round Square is a worldwide association of more than 70 schools in five continents sharing unique and ambitious goals. He said, 'Students attending the programme make a strong commitment, beyond academic excellence.' He added that all member schools share a strong underlying belief that service to others are important. A lot of stress is given to issues like adventure, leadership training, responsibility and international understanding.
Regarding the programme, principal Samar Bhaduri, said there are key speakers who will give their view on different topics to the students. Magsaysay award winner Aruna Roy and exponent of Bharatanatyam Malika Sarabhai will address the students on Sunday. Union minister Sachin Pilot will address them on Monday. Shiv Khera and secretary general and CEO of World Wildlife Fund- India Ravi Singh, executive director Brian Dawson and Ann West will also share their views to the delegations.
The Round Square conference was held for the first time in 1967. 'Since then, selected schools have been meeting,' said Bhatnager. Two years ago the conference was held at Daly College, Indore, and now it is beig organised at Mayo College.
